Montauk State Park, Salem, MO

The old grain mill located in Montauk State Park is being restored to operate for demonstrations. The four story mill is a turbine powered mill versus water wheel power and most of the machinery is still there. The original mill was built in 1870. The current mill was built in 1893. There are four fires in the mill’s history.

I was able to tour the mill with the park naturlist by flashlight and whatever light came through the windows. I love the dark spooky effect the light through the windows created. I was thrilled I was able to get a photo of one of the resident bats.
